President's Message

The Musselburgh festival is coming round again, and as with years gone by, it holds the promise of being an exciting community event for all to enjoy. There are no barriers in place for the Musselburgh festival. It is open to one and all, people of the town and visitors alike. No matter your age, there are events for everyone to enjoy. From the ceremonies steeped in tradition such as the Sashing, to the family fun day at the racecourse, everyone is welcome to participate or spectate in the town’s annual celebrations.

A real sense of community spirit envelops the whole festival and as more people take part the greater that spirit grows. As Musselburgh grows, the festival too has to grow and evolve to keep the event open to everyone. It gives me great pleasure to know that many organisations take part in our festival. Too many to mention individually, I thank all the various groups, clubs and organisations for their help and their support, adding their own unique contribution to the festival.

Be it a group or an individual, everyone has their own important part to play. From helping to run an event, to taking part, to cheering on participants, the success of the festival lies with everyone. The committee are dedicated to listening to suggestions and acting on those suggestions to help the festival improve.

With the hustle and bustle of life and Edinburgh on our doorstep, it is easy to let this one of a kind event slow in momentum. I personally welcome the festival as a chance not only to keep old traditions going, but also to initiate new ones. The Festival is a time for enjoyment; a time to gather with old friends, make new ones, and embrace the unique atmosphere the festival creates.

I wish the official party all the very best for the week ahead and I know that they will act as excellent ambassadors for our town. Let’s all get behind them and make this festival one to remember.
